Fluffy just loves award season, but was caught off guard by the Peoples’ Choice awards this year– most awards shows air on Sundays and I thought I wouldn’t have another posting until the Golden Globes. So here is a quick late-night version of the Fluffy Awards, done as complete as can be, with the requisite categories. The Peoples’ Choice, like the Grammys, are a little more relaxed than many of the major shindigs, so lots of shorter dresses on display, but still lots of glam and drama!
CATEGORY: MOST IMPROVED
You’d never think this was the same girl whose dress I dissed awhile back when she was doing the carpet walk at the Oscars for Winter’s Bone. Back then she was wearing a dull, just-kinda-there red column dress, but this short Valentino is definitely long on glam, and her shoes are gorgeous. Rock on, Katniss!
CATEGORY: JUNIOR PROM QUEEN
CATEGORY: SENIOR PROM QUEEN
At least Kaley’s prom dress is a little more modern and grown-up (at least it looks like it’s trying to be grown-up– though it’s still decidedly a prom dress). The tea-length pink number was designed by Christian Siriano. I usually love Kaley’s quirky sense of style, but this dress isn’t doing it for me– though her shoes are a saving grace.
CATEGORY: BEST RETRO
CHLOE GRACE MORETZ
Chloe’s Simone Rocha minidress is a blast from the past in the best way. The neon chartreuse color, the flower detailing, and the sleeveless styling all scream 60’s London. She updates the look with softer locks and makeup than Twiggy would have worn back in the day, and once again, love the shoes.
CATEGORY: THE BLUE RIBBON
RACHEL LEIGH COOK
CATEGORY: THE GOLD MEDAL
Melissa is wearing a brilliant gold Junko Yoskioka gown, another dress like Rachel Leigh Cook’s that needs no extras because of the lovely color. Melissa even forgoes the bling for the most part, with the exception of a fabulous metallic clutch, letting this dynamite dress speak for itself.
CATEGORY: THE SAD CANDY CANE AWARD
Fluffy is normally a fan of the sparklies, but this death-spiraling barber pole of a dress is not the right way to do them. Poor Rumer. She looks like a Christmas zebra. This was “designed” by Maria Lucia Hohen. Oh well, at least her hair looks nice.
I’m going to admit to being around Jen’s age myself, and I’ve gotta commend her for rocking this adorable Dior leather dress. It’s wonderfully youthful and– dare I say?– fluffy, and I absolutely love it!
CATEGORY: BLACK AND WHITE AND AWESOME ALL OVER
HEIDI KLUM AND TAYLOR SWIFT
I am knocked out by both of these amazing gowns, and can’t decide which one I like better– both were in contention for my best-dressed honors of the night, but I’ve had so many ties lately that I decided I had to pick a clear winner this time around. Heidi is wearing a black cutout Julien McDonald dress with glitzy gold trim, very classy without sacrificing the sexy factor. Taylor was a big surprise, forgoing her usual glittery look for a stunning-in-its-simplicity white Ralph Lauren gown and understated makeup with statement earrings.
CATEGORY: DRAMA QUEEN
Naomi is wearing an unbelievable Alexander McQueen creation. From the multicolored beading around the halter to the incredible liquid-looking gold sequin bodice to the sweeping black train, this is hands down the most dramatic look on the carpet.
CATEGORY: THE BAG LADY AWARD
Kristin’s dress is okay from about the waist down, but oh my God, the humanity of that bodice! What is it even made of? Do you ever feel like a plastic bag, Kristin? ‘Cos that’s what the top of your dress looks like.
CATEGORY: WORST DRESSED
Speaking of plastic bags… the Firework singer doesn’t look like anyone’s teenage dream in this, uh, whatever it is… drndl, maybe? Come on Katy, you can even make a dress that looks like a cupcake look awesome, what’s up with this Oktoberfest stuff? I’m so disappointed. I love you, Katy, I really do, and it pains me to name you worst-dressed, but even you can’t save an outfit that’s less FUN than FUG.
CATEGORY: BEST DRESSED
OMG, have you ever seen anything so cute in your life??? Lea’s Elie Saab mini is the most ah-mazing color… it’s sparkly, it’s lacy, it’s the perfect balance between the two– and while it’s a bit modest up top with its cap sleeves and demure neckline, it amps up the sexy with its revealing high hemline and hints of sheerness. And oh Lord, the shoes match too! Just freakin’ perfect!
SPECIAL CATEGORY: THE FLUFFY AWARD
By now you all know the drill about the Very Special Fluffy Award– the dress I’d have picked out for myself. Julianne’s Tony Ward Couture dress is so lovely I had to include front/back pics of it, with the added bonus of the “back” pic showing how the skirt swirls when she twirls! Midnight blue with ombre sequins. Sheer details. Cap sleeves. And check out those killer Giuseppe Zanotti stilettos! What’s not to love? This whole outfit needs to get in my closet ASAP!!!!
