(Late) Golden Globes fashion roundup: Some More Fluffy Awards

Yes, as usual, awards season snuck up on me and took me by surprise. The Golden Globes were nearly a week ago. I was aware of them the night they happened. I didn’t write about the red carpet until now. Why? Well, a number of reasons. One, Fluffy is a procrastinator. Two, I’ve been conflicted about the critique of fashion rather than the work of the artists wearing it. But guess what? I’ve decided it’s all for fun anyway. Actresses get asked about their dresses because they look great, in a wide variety of clothing that is vibrantly expressive and fun. Actors, the guys, get asked about their work instead not because anyone really cares more, but because they’re all wearing the same damn thing (which is why I don’t critique tuxedos), so what else would you discuss, the weather?  So, I’m gonna keep doing this.

Without further ado, my roster of very, very tardy Fluffy Awards.

Category: Most Improved

Sarah Jessica Parker in Vera Wang

Sarah knows how to weird up a good look with kooky accessories, and she does it often. Here she wisely refrained. Her ball gown is just gorgeous.

Category: Cutest

Millie Bobby Brown in Jenny Packham

Could this sweet tea length dress be more adorable? Loving this beautiful and age-appropriate look.
Category: Gothic Glam

Mandy Moore in Naeem Khan

This sheer stunner channels Mandy’s inner Morticia in the best possible way, with loose hair and sparkling jewelry to keep the look just short of full-on vamp. Well played.
Category: The Gold Medal

Simone Biles in Alexis Monsanto

See what I did there? The Olympian shines in a textured gown with a scaled bodice in the same bright tone as her medals.
Category: The Silver Medal

Gina Rodriguez in Naeem Khan

Beaded fringe!  Good lord, I love beaded fringe. It’s just freaking magical.
Category: The Fairy Princess Award

Hailee Steinfeld in Vera Wang

It’s just so ethereal. She looks like a pretty purple cloud.
Category: Red Royalty

Brie Larson in Rodarte

A classic look in a flattering shade, with added sparkle and perfect fit.
Category: Little Miss Sunshine

Reese Witherspoon in Versace

This is just saved from Generic Column™-hood by its buttery, eye-catching color and simple detail.
Category: The Blue Ribbon

Jessica Chastain in Prada

So floral, so sparkly, so awesome! Despite the signature Prada bust darts that make their designs look a bit, um, chilly, this one is a winner.
Category: Purple Passion

Nancy O’Dell

Lately I’ve been having difficulty finding the designers of Nancy’s frocks, but I think the reason is that she’s designing her own. If so, mad props!
Category: The Monochrome Award of Merit

Sophie Turner in Louis Vuitton

An unusual look that somehow stops short of weird and is instead just really cool.
Category: Tickled Pink

Felicity Jones in Gucci

This is quintessential Gucci. Quirky and cute without becoming tacky. And I love pink and black together; that should happen more often.
Category: The Goddess Award

Gwendoline Christie in Vivienne Westwood

Simply put, Greek-statue perfection.
Category: The Shining Star

Emma Stone in Valentino

“It’s pink and it has stars on it.”  Emma’s tongue-in-cheek answer was the source of my initial ambivalence this week about fashion commentary. But she looks fab.
Category: The Dare-to-Bare Award

Kristin Bell in Jenny Packham

This black gown, with its sparkly, tux-inspired bodice, leaves little to the imagination, but she’s rocking it!
Category: The Little Mermaid That Could

Chrissy Teigen in Marchesa

I love a shimmery mermaid gown, and this one doesn’t disappoint. Slay.

Category: Wildest

Janelle Monae in Armani Privé

This is so fun!  And those shoes are amazeballs!  The pearls in her hair are just the right touch too. I love it!
Category: The Cinderella Award

Giuliana Rancic in Rani Zakhem

Ooh. What a gorgeous garden of a ball gown. It’s a little retro, a little modern, and a lot classy.
Category: The Sparkle Award

Priyanka Chopra in Ralph Lauren

And the shiniest dress of the evening is this intricate column, simple in design but awe-inspiring in detail.
Category: The Divalicious Award

Blake Lively in Atelier Versace

Does anybody out-glam Blake? Incredible as always (check out those bracelets!!! And pockets!!!!)

Category: Worst Dressed

Anna Chlumsky in Roland Mouret

I’m letting this speak for itself. Ugh.
Category: Best Dressed
Lily Collins in Zuhair Murad

Wow. This rosy ball gown is fit for royalty. This was a tough call, but Lily edges out Blake only because I’m a ball gown kind of girl. Anyway. Just look at it.

Special Category: The Fluffy Award

Olivia Culpo in Zuhair Murad

The Extra-Special Fluffy Award goes to the dress that best embodies my personal aesthetic– that is, the dress I’d have chosen for myself. Check this out. We’ve established that I love ball gowns, but that skirt. It looks like an amalgamation of the best parts of Klimt and Van Gogh, in convenient wearable form. Yaaas.
So there we have our seriously late Fluffies. See you next time– I promise I won’t procrastinate again!
